UNCLASSIFIED THE WHITE HOUSE SECRET wASHINGTON UNCEASSIFIED December 24, 1985 NATIONAL SECURITY DECISION DIRECTIVE NUMBER 204 TRANSFER OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE COLLECTION TASKING AUTHORITY In accordance with paragraph 1.5m of Executive Order 12333, this directive provides policy guidance concerning the transfer of national intelligence collection tasking authority between the Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) and the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) as warranted by international crisis conditions. x (BD) This transfer of tasking authority will not alter the command arrangements or the existing operational control over national intelligence collection assets. Such responsibilities will continue to be carried out by the responsible departments and agencies. (b) The SECDEF and the DCI will ensure at all times that national intelligence collection assets are used in response to priority U.S. national security objectives and requirements. 11/21/92 Partially on under provisions of E.0. 12356 by S.
