Waltham Watch Company,
Waltham,
Massachusetts,
Gentlemen:
Atiention: Mr. Ernent B. Jackson, Pur. Agent
We have your reply of November 29th and are very
much disappointed indeed to learn that it is not possible for you
at this time to reaoh a decision a. to using our product "UNDARK"
Radium Buminous material.
The writer understood at the time of his last visit
with Mr. Jackson end Mr. Foster that the sample quantity of "UNDARK",
which ve furnished, would simply be applied in production , and com-
pared as to smoothness of application, luminosity, etc. and possibly
being sent to the United States Burcau of Standards et Washington for
comparative tests with other material.
We are surprised to learn that you consider it nec-
essary to arrange special apparatus for compative tests of Radium
Luminous material, and we are wondering what you ean have in mind on
this.
Ke have at the head of our Physical Researoh Department, Dr.
Victor F. Hess, formerly head of the Vienna Radium Institute, to Pro-
fessor of Physics at the University of Graz, and one of the foremost
Radium physicists in the world. Dr. Hess has gathered together the
most successful and latest instrupents and devices developed in several
European countries, and our electrolytical and physical laboratories
today represent by far the most complete end most modern collection of
apparatus for ell sorts of measuring and testing of Redium and its By-
Pooducts, also for testing comporative increase in luminosity and com-
parative decrease in luminosity of Madlum Luminous material.
If you desire extremely scientific tests which your
laboratora 18 undoubtedly not in a position to equip themselves for,
we
shall be very glad indeed if the Waltham Watch Company would consent
to sending Mr. Foster, and anybody else they might wish to accompany
him, to our laboratories at Orange, N. j.i Dr. Hess will give to them
whatever time they may desiré, and will donduct for them whatever tests
of comparison they may require.
If this cannot be arranged, and if the time at which you
can conduct ahatever tests you had in mind must remain indefinite, ve
will ask you to return the Radium Luminous material>which we sent to
you for testing purposes, this office, marking the package for the
writer. We are sorry that you did not see fit to use this material in
