June 18, 1924 Dr. Theodore Blum 140 West 57th St. New York City Dear Sir:- Te acknowledge receipt of your letter of June 14th and regret to learn that Mrs. Kuser's condition is not improv- ing very rapidly. Vith regard to your request for financial aid in the payment of her bills, we regret exceedingly that we cannot take on this obligation at the present time. The status of the Hadium business does not warrant our assuming any addi- tional obligations for the present. We have alvaya made it a practice to take care of our employees during periods of illness and no one has ever loat any pay through absence on that account, but in view of the fact that Mrs Kuser has not been in our employ for almost four years, we do not see how we could consider her in the same class as our regular em- ployees. The results of the very thorough investigation which we are making upon this condition, which you claimed was cansed by her employment in our plant, have shown so far that there was nothing in our work which might be considered the cause of her condition. Our inrestigation is not thoroughly completed but we have every reason to believe that it will shon up as we expect it; thereforo for us to assume payment of Mrs. Kuser's bills at the pe esent time would be establishing a precedent which we do not consider wise. We sincerely hope that there is some way that a per- son in the circumstances of Mrs. Kuser ean secure all the med- ical and surgical care and the necessities which go mi th that care without question of her financial ability to take eare of it being considered.
