Dr. Cecil K. Drinker,
Harvard University School of Public Health,
55 Van Drike St.,
Boston,
Mass.
Dear Dr. Drinker:
Thanks for your two lettersof June 27, one
enclosing report on films, There is another thought that has
just occurred to me becanse we are doing practically no work in
our Application Department. The Plant there usually has two boom
periods in the year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. We are
now in the Summer slack time. It had not occurred to me before, but
this fact may be import nt for you to kmow. Just as you found at
Walthan, our operators do not vork continuously.
To make this thing practical, I am going to ask Mr.
Vielt to sumarize the records of employment of the various operators,
particularly those who have been afflicted with the mysterious disease.
If the records are complete, same very interesting data will be forth-
coming. My impression is that most of these operators worked less
than half a year whereas those in the Plant who really handle Radium
work pretty mch all the time.
I will repeat again that I agree with you that all
precautions should be taken, bat I still feel that we have to find the
cause.
Cordially,
President.
