STATE OF NEW JERSEY
Department of Labor
571 Jersey Ave.,
Jersey City.
June 24, 1925.
Dr. Miner, Chief Chemist,
Welsbach Company,
Gloucester, N.J.
Dear Dr. Miner:
Dr. Martin Szamatolski, Ph.D., Consulting hemist for
the New Jersey State Department of Labor, advised me that you are regarded
as one of the leading experts in the United States on the question of the
influence of mesothorium on the human body. The Department of Labor
is
deeply interested in this matter owing to a number of fatal cases of
poisoning that occurred in a plant using a radio active luminous paint
compound composed of Z nc sulphide and, perhaps, a small quantity of
mesothorium.
I shall deeply appreciate any information you may be able
to give the department on literature regarding the influence of radio actibe
compounds on the humna body.
In addition, we would appreciate your advising us of any
experience you may have had along these lines as a number of workers in the
plant mentioned suffered severe cases of necrosis and pernicious anemia.
Thanking you for any information you may be able to give us,
I remain
Very truly yours,
(Signed) John Roach
DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF LABOR.
