April 14, 1926. Dr. llugh Mackay, 215 MeIntyre Block, Winnipeg, Man. Can. Dear Dr. Mackay: In rather a short time now, I expect there will be published in one of the prominent medical journals a report of the investigation into the situation mentioned in your letter of the 6th. It seems to me that the publicity in this case has been inspired and is probably not scientific. When this article appears, I shall be glad to send you a copy. While I do not know the final contents now, it is my belief that scientific investigation will explode the whole scandal that has been broadcast. I have reference to the A. M. A. Directory, and form your own In the meantime, you might check up some of the authors, you current conclusions. It is my guess that from eighty to ninety per cent of the activating agencies used in luminous material in this country is radium. On the other hand, that used abroad, I believe, is almost exclusively mesothorium or its decay products. In other words, the situation is similar to the intravenous use of radioactive elements. In the United States we use, so far as I know, radium exclusively. Abroad the work is founded, I am told, to a very large degree on mesothoriume Yours truly, President.
