however, denied the opportunity to investigute first hendedly
the conditions at the plant of defendant Cerporation. At the
time of publication of said firut investigation, however, the
defendent Corporation cansed another publication of an appare
ently soientific nature to be published denying and purporting
to counterset the foroe and officacy of the original investiga-
tion for which 11 had peid and which had turned out contrary
to the desiro and interest of those in control of asi d Corpora-
tion. The defendant, likewise by divera means endeavored to
persuade the complei nent and her co-workers who had been in-
pregnated to their great dattege with said radioactive aub-
stances at the plant of the defendant Corporation, to believe
that asid radioactive substances were harmless and not the
gause of the ilinesses experienced by complainant and hor co-
workers, olthough defendant dorporation well knew that the con-
trary was the trath. pefendant Corporation or those intersated
in its behalf, directed letters indi vidually to several of its
former employees, requesting that the workers at the plant of
the defendant Corporation should submit to an examination by a
certain individual who was the author of the artiole hereinbe-
fore referred to published in behalf of the dofendand Corpora-
tion to offaet the results of the original investigation, which
author, although not a practicing physician, would make a seem-
ing examination of such employeea of defendent aa would ball
in reaponse to request and then inform 3810 employees that
radium or any other radioactive substances were not the cause
of their trouble. Defendant Corporation, on one cocasion of a
visit on the pert of a boctor interested in behalf of the girls
had posted a placard of warning which, however, was renoved
shortly afterward. AS a result of these verious endeavors of
the defendant, the effect of the original investigation which
get forth conditions known long prior thereto to the defendant,
