Mrs. Quinta McDonald, who is slowly wasting away
from the effects of radium poisoning, fought yesterday in
Newark Chancery Court to divorce her husband, "because
he beats her and causes her unbearable pain."
But, though she asks that her
husband be kept from inflicting
further torture upon her, Mrs.
McDonald also appealed to the
Court to forbid his marrying any
other woman.
James McDonald, the husband,
sat in court apparently dazed. He
scarcely understood the legal
aspects of the situation, it seemed.
'She thinks I want her money,"
he said. "She is wrong. All I
want is the girl I married."
"Her money" is $10,000,
awarded her by the United States
Radium Corp. when she and four
other women, former employes of
the company, found they had been
incurably injured by radio-active
material used in manufacture of
"radium-dialed" watches.
Mrs. McDonald, who was too ill
to appear in court, asked a
limited divorce on the ground of
cruelty, through her attorney,
Raymond H. Berry.

McDonald was asked if he would
defend the action. He seemed
perplexed.
"Why," he said, "I understood
this action was to be called off. [
