Dr. Herman Schlundt,
University of Missouri,
Columbia, Mo.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
Dr. Flinn and I discussed in detail the paper yesterday,
and I am herewith giving you our suggestions, which you, of course, are
at liberty to exercise in executing. There is one point, however,
which we prefer not to extend this privilege of exercising your judgment
in, and that is the order of the authord. We both feel that your name
should appear first, for the following reasons: First, you have contrib-
uted a large amount of your time to this problem, secondly, Dr. Flinn and
I both feel that the paper would not be as well prepared as it is had
the task fallen to us, and thiddly, due to the nature of the paper we feel
that it will carry a groat deal more prestige were your name to occur
first, as after all this is quite a technical treatise from the radio-active
standpoint of the problem at hand, and inasmuch as you are well known in
this field it is obvious that your name should appear first.
We wish in submitting the paper that you would consider
the suggestions given below:
While the outline as given on page 3 of the report serves
a purpose which we appreciate, still it is our opinion that this part
could be well eliminated, as after all each individual subject discussed
carries a heading. I don't know as there is a great deal gained by read-
ing the outline, except a genoral idea of what is to be presented - on
the other hand the paper is so full of valuable data and theoretical
discussion that anyone that has occasion to look the subject up at all
will be sufficiently interested to read it in detail.
However, if you
elect to retain the outline, part 2 should be included as a part of said
outline - further we would suggest that #b" under 2 be eliminated and
3 completely eliminated. If the outline is omitted you could incorporate
a sentence to the effedt of the one contained in your letter of October
15th, at the end of page 2, which would get across the ides that further
work is to be reported.
At the bottom of page 3, can we not alter the last two
sentences to read as follows: Fand in the hands of an experienced man
working under carefully controlled conditions 2 or 3 micrograms will give
a positive test.
Page 4, line 5, we suggest adding the following Blause:
"near to the middle of the back of the subject thus assuring close
proximity to the bone nass before -
