Mr. H. H. Barker,
535 Pearl Street,
New York City, New York.
Dear Mr. Barker:
Am enclosing, herewith, clipping which is self ex-
planatory. Am also enclosing a photostat copy of retraction
three years ago, which is self explanatory.
I went over to the editor and had a talk with him
in reference to this continued publicity of untruth and the
damage it was doing, as I have already done with the Tribune.
In both cases they state these stories originate with their New
York correspondent, who is there on the ground and of course
they took it forgranted that he knew the situation thoroughly
before writing.
It seems to me that if an effort were made by your
firm to straighten out the situation by getting it clear in the
minds of these reporters, that whatever happens radium is not to
blame, that it would help materially in clearing up this situa-
tion and set us right in the minds of the general public.
I am frank to confess that our business has been
practically ruined, as a result of this publicity. However,
with the hope that there would be no more unfavorable publicity,
and that the charges against radium, of itself, would be rem
futed by you, we have continued on in business and taken our
loses. We felt that eventually we would win financially and
that we were really rendering a humanitarian service, but to date
we have been disappointed in that we have failed to find one word
published by you or anyother Radium concern denying the charges
or any explanation whatever, that would help to set the matter
right in the minds of the general public.
It scems that if the writers in general knew posi-
tively that radium could not legitimately be blamed for this
condition, they would be rather hesitant in continuing to write
putting the full blame on radium. The result would be a cese
sation of this publicity.
Very truly yours,
