Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, No. Dear Dr. Schlundt: During your conversation with Mrs. Hughes yesterday morning, I read the preliminary draft of paper #3 by you and Dr. Fialla. I had hoped to have an opportunity to discuss this with you, but as you realize the opportunity did not present itself. There are just one or two minor points which I wish to call to your atten- tion: 1. I notice that you use the expression *co-efficient of elimination as you will recall Dr. Flinn could not appreciate the exact significance of this expression, and I em wondering if we may not have this same experience with the medical profession as a whole, for after all this article will occur in one of the medical journals, rather than in a chemical or physical journal, and would it not be better to utilise an expression which would convey a more definite meaning to the average physician than the term "co-efficient of climination"? They seom to have an idea that such an expression involves a fixed constent, which I believe we agreed did not exist in this case. 2. Page 6, first paragraph, under the heading Discussion: You infer the various ways in which radium may be eliminated, and I am wondering whether or not it might not be advisable to suggest the possibility of conveying radium to off-spring when the Mother is radio- active. I merely raise this point for your consideration, for perhaps it is a little premature to offer such a thoughT not that it may not exist, but it may be just as well not to put such thoughts into the minds of such cases. 3. In view of the fact that this is the third contribution in this field, and that the same instruments have been used in all of the work, I do not feel that acknowledgment should be made to the U.S.R.Cop. for the use of its instruments.
