Dr. Herman Schlundt,
University of Missouri,
Columbia, Mo.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
Thru the efforts of Dr. John and Dr. Carlson,
we are advised that they have been conducting some experiments with
the use of radium chloride internally on mental cases at the Elgin
Insane Institution. This work is being done under the observation
of Dr. Read and his associates.
Their work has been preliminary so far, but the
results have been of such a nature that they are inclined to continue,
and they expect to set apart a group of patients within the next few
week, and conduct a rather extensive program on the use of radium
chloride with these patients.
They are anxious that their work be checked up with
electroscopic observations and if you are interested in taking part
in this work I imagine they will be only too glad to have your
cooperation.
I have written to our principals in Chicago, asking
them to get me, if possible, the amounts of radium chloride which
they expect or plan on administering to these patients and over what
period of time. I thought if we had this information we might
more ably determine when the best time would be to make electroscopic
determinations.
I would be glad to join in this work if it is feasible,
although we are so far from Elgin it may not be practical to do SO.
You, however, are located near enough, that it seems to me you might
carry on this work without incurring any great amount of expense.
Will you please let me know what your ideas are along
this line.
Sincerely yours,
Vice President.
