535 Pearl Street

My dear Barker:
I had a talk with Horace Thomas who
is
conducting the experiments on the administra-
tion of radium to rats and he reports that the
colony is still thriving but there are somo indi-
cations now that the radium is having an effect
on the boney skeleton. The last time he injected
radium solution some of the rats put up a little
struggle and in this way two of them had a frac-
ture of bone in the leg. He is, however, planning
to continue a little while longer and hopes now to
mate a pair of the radioactive rats to ses if there
will be any transmission of radium to the offspring.
The entire colony has come through the summer heat
and I hope it will survive the hot spell we are now
enduring.
We need another shipment of about 20
5-microgram ampoules of radium solution to carry
send 9/16/31
forward the experiments.
WHB
With very kind regards, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Herman Edward
Herman Schlundt.
