UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY December 2d, 1931. Mr. H. H. Barker United States Radium Corporation 535 Pearl Street New York City DEC 5 1931 My dear Barker: Your letter arrived this morning deal- ing with the probable dates for going to Elgin. I am very glad that you are thinking about this and think- ing about it early so that definite arrangements can be made. As far as I a.m concerned, I shall be free to be in Elgin on December 22d to 24th or from Decem- ber 28th to 3lst. I shall be available on either one of these two sets of three successive days; I am assum- ing that the tests can all be made in three days. Let me ask whether or not you yourself are planning to come to Elgin to participate in the tests? I hope that you will and also that you will ar- range to bring with you one or two ionization chambers. We have two or three ionization chambers, but they have been used constantly for radium determinations so that their natural drift is just a little higher than I would like to see for these leterminations of activi- - ty in expired air, which generally is very low. If you are not planning to come west for these tests, I wish to suggest that I take with me Mr. Paul Morris who has been engaged this fall in making tests on expired air for radioactivity among our workers in the refining laboratory. I shall speak to Mr. Morris in a day or so to find out whether he can make arrangements to make this trip. With best of good wishes, I remain, Sincerely yours, Herman Schhundt Herman Schlundt. hs.as
