December 18,1931. Dr. Herman Schlundt, 303 Hicks Ave., Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: We have this morning received a letter from our representative on the West Coast, which reads as follows: #REGARDING FIFTY MILLIGRANS RADIUM SOLB ZIMNERMAN SEVERAL YEARS AGO WANTS TO KNOW BY RETURN WIRE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WILL LOAN ON THIS YOU KEFPING RADIOM AS SECURITY ALSO MAXIMUM PRICE YOU WILL PAY CASH FOR WIRE HIM COLLECT SEVEN ELEVEN LOENS STATE BLDG SENDING ME COPY OF WIRE. n (PACIFIC RADIUM APPLICATION co. ILTD.) We have replied to the above according to the following: "OUR POLICY PRECLUDES OUR EITHER MAKING LOAN OR RE- PURCHASE OF RADIUM THAT HAS BEEN SOLD STOP FOR SALE SUGGEST COMMUNICATING WITH SCHLUNDT UNIVERSITY MISSOURI COLUMBIA :ISSOURI ADVISING IF TUBE HAS BEEN OPENED SINCE IT LEFT OUR LABORATORIES" On December 11,1928 we shipped to the Pecific Radium Application Company a tube containing 51.46 mi ligrams of radium element in a total bulk of 700 milligrams bromide form. This is undoubtedly the tube which Zimmer desires to dispose of, I am of the opinion that the tube has not been opened. Here is a chance to pick up some radium at rather a nominal figure. I would not offer in excess of $20.00 per milligram, especially in view of the fact that the salt is of rather low purity. It is possible that the University might be interested in this amount, if not we might consider the purchase of same for resale. If you will refer to Vol. 97 #19, of Nov. 7,1931 of the Journal of the A.M.A., page 47, you will note that there are two advertise- ments wherein they desire to purchase radium. Dr. Withers add runs prac- tically in every issue, and the add by the Shreveport Charity Hospital has only occurred in the last issue or two. It might not be out of order for you to obtain some idea as to what these people would be willing to pay for a small parcel of radium such as this would be. In your communications with Zimmer or the Pacific Redium
