Edwards, Smith & Dawson,
1 Exchange Pl.,
Jersey City, N.J.
Re: La Porte vs. U. S. Radium Corporation
Dear Smith:
According to our records Irene C. LaPorte was employed by us
on May 14,1917 and left our employment on December 11,1918. There is nothing
on the card which would indicate that there may have been an interruption in
her work, but from a conference we had with Mr. La Porte we assumed that there
probably was.
The card reports her work as Inspector and piece work, both of which
involved the handling of luminous material.
We have a copy of the death certificate of the State of New Jersey
recording the death of Irene F. LaPorte as occurring on June 16,1931 - the
cause being ascribed to Occupational Radium Poisoning in Watch Dial Industry,
Ostegenic Sarcoma of Pelvis, with contributory causes Metastasis to Lungs.
On June 13,1931, there was e conference held at the Offices of
Collins & Corbin, attended by Mr. Barker, Mr. Markley, Vincente La Porte and
Br. Leanard J. Emerglick, with regard to this case, and we are herewith glad
to send you copy of this report, together with copy of a letter from Collins &
Corbin's office, from which you will note that a copy of the report was sent
to both Mr. Galentine of the Globe Indemnity Co. and Mr. Pesinger of the
New Amsterdam Casualty
You will note that it developed at this conference that Mrs. LaPorte
was employed by us in the Spring of 1917, continuing for approximately one
year, and then'again for a few weeks during the summer of 1918. As I previ-
ously pointed out our card does not show this interruption in her employment.
Very truly yours,
Vice President.
