DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
July 22d, 1932
Mr. H. H. Barker
United States Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York City
My dear Barker:
You may congratulate yourself that you
did not accept our invitation to make a trip to Hot
Springs, Arkansas, for it has been quite hot here all
during July. The temperatures running between 95 and
100 every day are fortunately relieved by nights which
are sufficiently cool for sleeping. We have not made
the trip to Hot Springs yet, but expect to start out
either tomorrow or Sunday. One of the boys, Mr. Lloyd
Thomas, who graduated here two or three years ago and
who has been with Lind during the past year, will a c -
company me on the trip. We have calibrated a new
quartz bi-filar electroscope which we have received
from Gunthor & Tegetmeyer and it seema to withstand
all temptation to collapse on account of insulation
troubles. I think we shall probably not stay more
than a week or ten days at Hot Springs for we are very
anxious to get started for Yellowstone.
Dr. Lind and Mrs. Lind are making a trip
to Yellowstone between August 10th and 20th and we ex-
pect to see him in the park. Later we shall all try to
meet again in Denver for the meeting of the Amerioan
Chemical Society.
I thank you for the copy of the patent which
you sent. I shall put it down as one of my contributions
to science, but I suppose some people here in Columbia
probably think I will reap $100,000. as bonus from this
patent.
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlundt
Herman Schlundt.
