Mr. H. H. Barker
U. S. Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York City
My dear Barker,
Last fall the Maywood Chemical Works had Mr. Hill,
who is engaged in their mesothorium refining up to the
bromides, come to Columbia to be tested for radioactivity.
We found him to be entirely negative. We advised the
Maywood people to have this operator watched carefully
both as to blood count and electroscopic measurements
We have no doubt that the Maywood Company would like to
have Mr. Hill measured again by me at the time I shall
be in New York City. What I wish to find out is whether
the U. S. Radium Corporation has the gamma-ray electro.
scope used by the U. S. Public Health Service and if you
have it conveniently available would you permit me to use
this instrument in making a test on Mr. Hill.
Let me say that I have a Wulf Quartz-fiber Gamma Ray
instrument of my own, but if I could avoid taking the in-
strument on the trip it would be a little convenience.
No d oubt Dr. Flinn would be very glad to loan me the
old Gamma Ray instrument, but the drift of that instrument
is nearly 10 times that of the new instrument and one would
therefore be uncertain about the results obtained for a
microgram or two of radium.
With very kind regards, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlundt
