July 6, 1954. Dr. S. C. Lind, University of Minnesota, Hinneapolis, Minn. Dear Dr. Lind: I have your letter of June 29th. Around the time of Koenig's death I saw a notice in the paper, but other than that I have no knowledge as to the conditions causing the necrosis of the pelvic region and spine; neither do I have any information as to whether or not Koenig contained any redium deposit in his skeleton. It is quite likoly that he did con- tain a small amount, and that either this may have caused the trouble, or the external radiation. I would, however, favor the internal deposition as a means of causing the condition re- ported. These things are very disturbing, end I do not doubt but what Whittemore*s death may have been caused by radium as a primary factor. I do not know whother you recall Wall Smothers, who worked with the Radium Company of Colorado, and who died around 1918 or 1919. It is my opinion that his case was one due clearly to the effects of radiation. With kind regards, I am, Sincerely yours, Vice-Fresident
