Dr. Herman Schlundt,
Room 110, New Chemistry Bldg.,
Columbia, Missouri.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
According to present information that we
have, we shall go to trial in the LaPorte case on September
17th, the date originally set. Mr. Enmerglick has been anxious
to get this thing going, and I doubt if there will be mich
that we can do to delay matters any longer. Should conditions
have changed at the University of Missouri, whereby it will be
possible for you to come on for even one day, Tre wish that you
would so advise us. I thought that you might possibly get away
so that you could be here Friday or possibly Saturday of the
week of trial and return to Columbia the following Monday. In
case it is out of the question for you to do this, we shall try
and arrange to have your testimony taken at some later date when
it will be possible for you to come on to New York. This, how-
ever, we do not look upon as favorable a procedure as to have you
present at the trial.
I learned during the week end that the Mardens
have purchased a farm at Chester, N.J. are are spending the
summer there. That is undoubtedly the reason why we had the
report that their telephone had been disconnected. I believe
there is an old house on the place and they have been spending
part of their time rehabilitating same. I do not know whethor
their objective is to ultimately use this place as a permanent
domicile, or just a summer place.
I trust that you had a pleasant trip out west
and feel quite refreshed as a result of your vacation. With kind
regards,
Sincerely yours,
HHBarker:DK
