Lind,\nUnivorsity of Minnesota,\nMinneapolis, Minn.\nDear Dr. Lind:\nI wont to thank you for your letter of March 24th con-\ntaining valuable suggostions of technicians to take oare of our\nrequirements here.\nAbout the samo time I wrote you I also contacted the\nUniversity of Missouri. They in turn gave me the nanos of four\nformer students who have had considerable experience with radio-\nactivity. One of those young mon, C. W. Wallhousen, by neme, just\nleft our place yosterday aftornoon after having spont two days look-\ning over the equipment and foniliarizing hinself noro or less with\nwhat would be necessary. We have engaged Nr. Wallhausen and he will\nreport for duty on the 18th of April.\nVallhauson worked under Dr. Schlundt and actually rofined\nand crystallized radium for a poriod of four years. lle has dono con-\nsiderable amount of tubing and has had quito a bit of experience in\nmaling up special radium and mesothoriun proparations for scientific\nstudy. He is considered ono of the bost students they have had in\na number of yoars at the Univorsity of Missouri and of course has a\nlot of experience along the line that we desire. Ho did not complete\nthe work for his Ph.D, being one year short. lle was majoring in in-\norganic chemistry with a minor in physics. It is our opinion that whon\nho is fully acquainted with our various oporations, he will fill our\nposition ideally. Wallhausen is very anxious to complete his work for\na Ph.D, and in all probability will make arrangenents to do so at\nColumbia, and of course he will have our encouragement and cooperation.\nOur good friend, Barker, is gradually growing woaker and may\nnot last longer than amonth or two. We are all very much broken up\nover this unfortunate situation, but ho is having the best of care and\nin the main is reasonably confortable. If the opportunity arises whore\nI can extend to him your regards, I shall do so, but this may not be pos-\nsible since he has not boen in any way told of his condition and is hope-\nful that he will soon be out again.\nAgain thanking you for your interest in our behalf, I am,\nCordially yours,\nCBLEE;dk\nProsident"
