SEP MEMORIAL HOSPITAL FOR THE TREATMENT OF CANCER AND ALLIED DISEASES INCORPORATED 1884 WALTER DOUGLAS AFFILIATED WITH CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF MANAGERS CENTRAL PARK WEST AT 106TH STREET CORNELL UNIVERSITY HARRY PELHAM ROBBINS MEDICAL COLLEGE PRESIDENT NEW YORK, N. Y. CHARLES H. SIMMONS DOUGLAS RESEARCH TELEPHONE: ACADEMY 2-6140 VICE-PRESIDENT LABORATORIES H. MORTON MERRIMAN HUNTINGTON FUND FOR SECRETARY CANCER RESEARCH EDWARD C. DELAFIELD TREASURER - - JAMES EWING, M.D. GEORGE F. HOLMES DIRECTOR SUPERINTENDENT September 9, 1938 U. S. Radium Corporation 525 Pearl Street New York City. Dear Sirs:- The bills for the radium cases have been increasing recently, especially owing to the hospitalization of Mrs. Hussman. After discussing the matter with Dr. Craver I feel compelled to approve of the bills since we find no escape from services of this class. Mrs. Hussman has very poor home conditions and is not doing at all well, and it seemed necessary to place her in the hospital. I suggested to Dr. Craver that he visit the patient and give his own report about her condition, but we doubt the advisability of incurring any extra expense since it is not probable that Mrs. Hussman can be properly cared for outside a hospital. The rate of $ 8.00 a day for a hospital room is somewhat high, especially for a long stay, and it might be possible for you to secure a lower rate. I am ready to take any steps which you advise, but feel that no definite saving can be accomplished. Juney Very truly yours, James Ewing, M. D JE/hf.
