Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons DE LAMAR INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC HEALTH 600 WEST 168TH STREET, NEW YORK DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE NOV 12 1943 November 10, 1943 Mr. C. Lee, United States Radium Corp. 535 Pearl Street, New York City, N.Y. Dear Mr. Lee: I have noticed recently in examining your girls that a certain number of them show a slight radioactivity. The only radioactivity that could occur is due to an inhalation or ingestion of small amounts of dust. Several of the girls have told me that they find some trouble in cleaning their hands. I am going to suggest that you use a sulphonate oil, pH-6, with a scrubber that goes with it. I have recommended it to several companies engaged in other lines of work and they find that it leaves the hands in a perfect clean condition and leaves the skin in a soft and pleasant condition. If you are willing to try this on three or four of the girls to see if it will remove the radioactive dust from their hands I will be glad to see that you receive a sample of the same for a trial. I have no commercial interest in the matter at all. This material is no more expensive than ordinary soap. Yours very truly, Tridench B. Fluin Frederick B. Flinn Director of Industrial Hygiene.
