Richardson, Sr. (809) 774-6484 SENATE PRESIDENT May 2, 1993 The Honorable Albert Gore, Jr. The Vice President of the United States Office of the Vice President Old Executive Office Building Washington, DC 20501 Dear Mr. Vice President: This correspondence acknowledges receipt of your response to my request to meet with you for a discussion on environmental issues which are of major concern here in the Virgin Islands of the United States. I recognize this as an area of mutual interest and am impressed with the causes which you have championed. To that end, I recently introduced legislation to prohibit disposal of solid waste through incineration. This in just one measure in the myriad of approaches which we must employ to address some of the more pressing issues that impact on our environment. Enclosed is a copy of the draft legislation, which is scheduled for public hearings in May 1993. I sincerely believe that with your strong convictions and sensible leadership on matters of the environment, you have advanced the level of awareness in the Virgin Islands and indeed, this country. Thus, I anticipate public support for this and related legislation. Regarding the requested meeting, I can truly appreciate the fact that your schedule is such that you are unable to accommodate my petition in the immediacy. However, I am convinced that it would be of immeasurable benefit to the Virgin Islands to be granted an opportunity to meet and discuss with you, first hand, some issues which threaten our very existence. Your leadership and guidance is a significant nexus and I look forward to our pending discussions. Sincerely, Binglely G. Richardson, Richarder Sr. 5/- President 20th Legislature of the Virgin Islands CC: The Honorable Harlan Matthews ENCL.
