Without investment, competent robotics will remain an elusive dream. and conventional robotics will plateau at the current level. Mass media mightproject that solutions exist, but special effects cannot terraform Mars or clean up the next Chernobyl. Competent technologies are required because without themwe will continue to re-create machines that will spend their entire "lives" in theme-parks, rather than in the world generating useful results.
