We are also aware that bipartisan legislation is being drafted\nthat meets our public health criteria, but which may never see the light of day if\nthe message we deliver does not accurately reflect our position.\nOur shared goals provide the type of common ground that should permit\nus to work together closely. It is for that reason we are willing to work with all\norgan zations striving to enact strong, comprehensive legislation this year.\nIt would be in everyone's interest if these views could be communicated to\nCongress in a single letter. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you\nto accomplish this task so that the letter to Congress could serve as a\ndemonstration of the public health community's commitment to shared goals.\nThis is not possible before the scheduled February 17. 1998 press event.
