Hand If you want to live your life with purpose, balance, and joy; if the child in you dreams of playing with rubber bands and hula hoops; The United States Army, Europe Family Assistance Centers (FACs) can help. Sixteen FACs across the command will host Joyful Living Seminars during June and July. Facilitated by Kathie Hightower and Dixie Schneider, the seminars are designed to help participants thrive on change and chal- lenge, and to experience the benefits of laughter. "I was one of those people who really wasn't unhappy, but I knew I wasn't happy," said Hightower. "I wanted to figure out what I could do to change that, in order to make my daily life more joyful." What she did was research and develop a seminar to teach not only herself, but others, how to "identify and plan for joy" each day. Both Hightower and Schneider have international speaking experience, and are members of the National Speakers Association. They also share a military background. Hightower has been a military family member for 18 years, and is a Lieutenent Colonel in the U.S. Reserves. Schneider has been a military family member for 22 years, is a nurse, and a board member of the American Association of Therapeutic Humor. The seminar is free and is open to everyone. It was a perfect answer to Bob Dole. I have attended seven Democratic Party National Conventions. Two as mem- bers of the Platform Committee, one as a Delegate and four as a working stiff that was needed to carry out the convention program. The 1968 convention was a disgrace and the 1996 convention was the most organized, unified and noncontroversial convention of them all. I received a number of invitations to attend the Chicago affair but 90 years of age and abadly crippled condition was a little too much to make the trip. I want you to do me affxoor In 1992 I received a letter from Brecken Arm- strong, a grand niece who lives in Altadena, California, asking how she could work in helping elect Bill Clinton. I told Brecken tp contact the Los Angelees County Democratic Party Chairman. The DPC had a friend in Pasadena that owned a mall who was a strong supporter of Bill Clinton. The mall owner set up a table in the mall corrider where Brecken registered new voters and passed out Clinton-Core campaign material. Brecken wrote me about her political ex erience and told me that she planned to run for the United States Senate about 25 years down the road. When the Clinton's and Gore!s attended the Arkansas Pemocratic Party meeting at the Robinson Auditorium in September 1992, I gave then Covernor Clinton Brecken's letter. .ie wrote her a nice thank you letter. Brecken Armstrong graduated from high school with honors in 1995 and this year she will be a Sophomore at Yale. She is a beautiful, intelleigent young lady who has her head screwed on right. That letter that Bill Clinton wrote her is framed and is hanging in her room at Yale. Brecken wants to work with a Presidential Interne appointment in 1997. Her Yale room mate is the daughter of the Bueeau Chief in D C for the St. Louis Post Dispatch and if things works out, she will stay in her home. Brecken also is the schedular for the Yale Red, White and Blue Chorus. Haybe, since you and the Presidentare both Yale Alumni maybe you can use the Yale Chorus as an enter- tainment item.
