PURPOSE: Since the NNA represents most of the weekly and small daily newspapers, a reception would provide an opportunity for the President to address and host many of the newspapers that do not usually receive special White House attention. *POTUS has requested this event be placed on the schedule. BACKGROUND: The National Newspaper Association will host its 33rd consecutive Government Affairs Conference in Washington, DC March 9-12, 1994. They expect more than 400 publishers and editors and their spouses from across the United States to attend this three-day series of briefings. DATE & TIME: Either Thursday afternoon, March 10. 1994 or Friday afternoon, March 11, 1994. Our 4,200 member trade association represents most of the and small daily newspapers in the country. We are 108 years old and have a long traditions of representing publishers on public policy matters in Washington. The National Newspaper Association will host its 33rd consecutive Government Affairs Conference in Washington, DC, March 9-12, 1994. We expect more than 400 publishers, editors, and their spouses from across the United States to attend this three-day series of briefings. NNA's conference provides people in Washington with a unique opportunity to inform and influence "hometown" America. Our members will return from the conference to publish articles in their hometown newspapers about their experiences in Washington. We would be honored if President and Mrs. Clinton would host a reception in the White House of our newspaper men and women on either Thursday afternoon, March 10, 1994 or Friday afternoon, March 11, 1994.
