Mayor Daley will be in Washington, D.C. tomorrow (Wednesday)
in connection with the signing of the unfunded mandate bill.
Although he has not asked to see you, it might be advisable for
you to meet with him for 15 minutes to discuss his race, Illinois
generally, and the Democratic National Convention in particular.
As I told you the other day, the word is that the Mayor does not
want any fundraising conducted in Chicago prior to the
Convention, presumably because the Chicago Convention Host
Committee is legally obligated to raise some $30 million in
connection with the '96 Convention. It is simply unthinkable
that neither your re-elect campaign, the DNC, the DCCC, the DGA
nor the DSCC will be permitted to raise money in Chicago for the
next year and a half. If you meet with the Mayor, this might be
an opportune time to raise this issue with him.
Please let either Leon or Marcia know if you wish to see the
Mayor.
