RE: Position with Clinton/Gore DATE: September 9, 1996 I am in the process of completing my duties in Chicago as Convention Manager and am anxious to begin work on the campaign as we discussed last week. In order to do so there are some details I would like to nail down: Responsibilities: As I understand, my responsibilities would include managing the communications/press operation and other duties as assigned by Peter. In addition, I would become a third spokesperson alongside Joe and Ann. Title: I suggest the title of Senior Advisor for Communications. I would hope this title would not conflict with Ann's which I understand to be Deputy Campaign Manager and Communications Director and Joe's title of Press Secretary. Compensation: I will need to compensated at $10,000 per month. There are duties at the convention through the end of the year that might help us reach my goal. with Debra DeLee's approval. Staff: I would like to bring my convention assistant, Lynn Hartley, at a monthly rate of $2,500. Start Date: We could be available as early as Monday, September 16. Insurance: With a family of five children. insurance is a big issue for me. I am currently part of the DNC AR Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan. If the Clinton/Gore plan is the same, life would be easier. If not, I may wish to remain on the convention health plan through the election. I have many questions remaining concerning size of staff, personnel and clarity of lines of authority to the staff from me, Joe and Ann. In addition, while I am confident that Joe, Ann and I can work out a comfortable relationship, it would be easier if the reporting structure is made clear at the outset.
