THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
23 September 1994
MEMORANDUM TO
Veronica Biggins
FROM
Harold Ickes
SUBJECT
Christine Heenan and the International
Conference on the Status of Women to be held
in Beijing, scheduled for summer of 1995.
Veronica, Christine Heenan, who is an extraordinarily
talented and effective senior policy analyst (who happens to be
an excellent writer) on the Domestic Policy Council, and who has
been working on health reform legislation since early 1993, is
very interested in working on the International Conference on the
Status of Women to be held in Beijing, scheduled for summer of
1995. As I understand it, this conference is being coordinated
and staffed by the State Department in conjunction with the White
House.
Christine is particularly interested in women's issues and
was instrumental in bringing women's health issues to the center
of the health reform debate.
I have been extremely impressed with her ability and
dedication and strongly urge that you talk to her about the
possibility of working on the Beijing conference. I am confident
she would make a significant contribution to this effort and
would continue to serve the Administration with great
distinction.
Please call to discuss.
