THE
Dear Bill,
Supp. Tele
I worried that I had missed all the interesting & fun political stuff in
Arkansas, living in Minnesota during your first Presidential
campaign. Last night I quit worrying. I wish you could have been at
Vic's campaign office while the results of the run-off were coming in.
The atmosphere was electric! The group was a wonderful mix of all
reput dus as
kinds of people. It was the most diverse group of Arkansans you'll
find anywhere, with one big thing in common -- we were all thinking
voters. In fact, I've dubbed Vic "the thinking person's candidate."

You would have enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure you were there in spirit.
It's hard to believe it's only been two weeks since the Governor's
17mg
office turned upside down with bad news. I can't recall being more

shocked than when I heard the verdict for Gov. Tucker that week.
I'm not too happy about the prospects of "Governor Huckabee" (two
words that shouldn't be used in the same sentence). The paper was
full of bad news that day, not the least of which was a report ranking
Arkansas as the "least healthy state in the country." I know reports
like that aren't 100% accurate, but it's not 100% wrong either. I was
particularly distressed by the high ranking of births to teen-age
mothers. It's a problem I want to help eliminate.
I look forward to seeing you and your family back here sometime. It
would be great if you could coordinate a big birthday bash here to

help support the Democratic party. Charge a $50 donation for your
50th, have T-shirts that say "I was there when Bill turned 50." I
think folks would come out in droves. Maybe even have a birthday
cake contest among Arkansas's top bakers.
We'll be busy working to get Vic elected in his race against Bud "the
stud" Cummins (a nickname someone else coined!). It'll be an
interesting race. Please let me know what's cookin' for your big
happy birthday coming up.
Sincerely,
July Judy Nelsen
