RESPONSE COMFORTING THEM ABOUT OUR PROGRAM. ASWSU ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY OGDEN UTAH 84408-2102 801-626-6349 February 22, 1993 Eli Segal Director of the Office of National Service Room 14 OEOB Washington DC 25001 Dear Eli Segal, We are writing in behalf of the students at Weber State University. We are active with the Associated Students of Weber State University, and the United States Student Association. We feel that the National Service Trust Fund has great potential and could help thousands of college students to get an education. However, we feel you should carefully consider several areas of great importance to students while devising the National Service Trust Fund. We ask that you follow USSA's recommendations on National Service. We especially ask that: a) the Trust Fund not replace current aid programs (especially the Pell Grant), b) that students play an integral role in the development and implementation of the program, c) that the stipend be no lower than $10,000 a year and be adjusted regionally based on the cost of living, and d) that the program be designed to allow for the participation of all students, including non-traditional students.
