I am writing this long overdue letter to express appreciation to the citizens of Elk Falls. On behalf of the
Kansas Health and Safety Extension Corps and myself, we would like for you to accept this certificate of
appreciation. Many thanks are extended to you for your wonderful hospitality, during the AmeriCorps
volunteer work camp, that occurred from May 20-23. You really helped us feel at home while we were
there, by providing a place to shower, delicious food, a tour, and delightful entertainment. I had a
wonderful time and was glad to be a part of your community project. After seeing so many small Kansas
towns that have more or less been left to ruin, it was very refreshing to see what you had done to revitalize
your town. I was very happy to be a vital part of that revitalization by helping to complete long overdue
projects, such as the bridge, for Elk Falls. It was a very pleasant cultural experience for me and I really
enjoyed meeting the different personalities in your town. Once again, thank you, and if I or KHaSEC can

The AmeriCorps workers thanked the Elk Falls community for its
hospitality during the three-day work projects. Meals, tools, equipment and
materials were furnished locally with the workers furnishing the labor.
Friends of Elk Falls wish to recognize the following who assisted:
Meals furnished by Cape Cod Restaurant, Ed's Sunny Lane, Country Kisses and
city of Elk Falls; Supervised help at the bridge - Melvin Friend, Paul Bocquin
and Paul Eck; Supervised help at highway memorial - Butch Wyler; wagon tour -
Bill Lemon and Marjorie Cunningham; tools and equipment - Don Armstrong of Sedan
and many others.
"Saturday at the Falls" is a new tourist feature that began in May and
includes most of the attractions that were opened on Sundays in previous years.
The public is invited to see the new facelift of this quaint and historic village.
The Visitor Center is available for art shows and special exhibits on

KS T20B E015 helped plan outdoor learning classroom for students in Bourbon County
KS T20B E058 has taken the lead in getting companies and farmers to recylce hazardous
materials in three counties. Is being used as a facilitator by county
entities on this matter
KS T20B Has set up training for 200 firefighters on how to deal with hazardous materials.
The training will be conducted during the second quarter and will include
farmers
KS T20B E092, she has brought together personnel from farm organizations, conservation
districts, and farmers

KS T20B, The new objectives have brought together farmers, townspeople, and government
officials. In addition employees of farm groups and businesses have been brought
together to work on a common problem.

KS T20A. Through adverse conditions members have learned to deal with racial
disharmony. One member was given the opportunity to attend the National Multicultural
Institute's Diversity workshop.

Plans have been developed to train firefighters in several counties
in the handling of hazardous materials. She has developed plans
to help farmers and citizens of different counties materials.

Volunteers helped haul trash, reburbish buildings and organize a water testing
clinic.

KS T20A The members of the Kickapoo team encountered apathy and hositility
in their environment. Due to the danger that the members were seemingly in,
the team was dissolved.

Attached is a "year-to-date" progress report showing accomplishments on objectives through the
third quarter report. This data, plus the fourth quarter data, will be provided to members of
Congress representing your state and to your agency leaders. It is imperative that the
information reflected in this report be as accurate as possible. The report also shows the
degree to which you have accomplished your objectives which were agreed to at the beginning of
this program year.
I ask that you carefully review this report. Review each objective with the following items in
mind:
1. Accuracy of the data. This information will be shared with many different groups,
and it is important to be accurate in our reporting as well as getting credit for all the great work
you have done during the year.
2. Completion of community service objectives. One way to determine the successful
completion of objectives is to measure accomplishments against the target quantity measurement
which you established at the beginning of the year. The table below gives you a snapshot picture

aged, debilitated, or mentally impaired people sat with
Day at Wichita Children's Home, an emergency pre-foster,
or temporary crisis home for children under the ages of
18. While there they filled 40 bags of leaves, filled 15
wheel borrows / repaired 150 ft of fence in order to make
a play ground a safer haven for their kids

Dear Ken:
On behalf of the Fick Fossil and History Museum Board of Directors and the community
of Oakley, I would like to thank you and the entire AmeriCorp team for the recently
completed interior painting project. The quality of the work and the professional attitude
of the team members reflects well upon the AmeriCorp project.
It had been twenty years since any interior restoration and improvements had been made
to the museum. Museums have great responsibility to collect, present and preserve items
reflecting the history of the area. The museum is currently undergoing many changes and
improvements as we strive to fulfill our goal of providing social and educational
opportunities for residents and visitors tot he are. We had planned to improve the
presentation and display of our collection, however, the cost and time factor had posed a
great problem for us. The assistance from the AmeriCorp helped make those
improvements a reality.
The change is one that is extremely visible to the visitor and the overwhelming reaction
has been very positive; both to the change in the display techniques and the efforts of the
AmeriCorp team. The AmeriCorp has helped shape the future of the community by
assisting in the preservation of the past.

Spent Veteran's Day at V.A. Hospital in Wichita where
five members spent time with 160 patients
Day at Catholic Adult Day Care center in Wichita, 50
aged, debilitated, or mentally impaired people sat with
Day at Wichita Children's Home, an emergency pre-foster,
or temporary crisis home for children under the ages of
18. While there they filled 40 bags of leaves, filled 15
wheel borrows / repaired 150 ft of fence in order to make
a play ground a safer haven for their kids (approximately

Day at Hutchinson Day Care Center where they helped clean
and repair carpet, walls, vents, ceiling, rest rooms,

Members for Whom Forms Have NOT Been Received" line, you have enrolled more members in your program than authorized. Please provide an explanation for this over
