I enjoyed being there and left feeling hopeful and uplifted. I CHRIS BURDICK also want to take this opportunity to share some thoughts that HEIDI PERLMUTTER have been rolling around in my head since leaving D.C. ANN RATCLIFFE RANDY RICE First, let me say that I believe that the meetings were useful JIM TOWERY and productive, but if you are thinking of doing this again I would like to suggest some changes in the format. Now that large groups of the President's staff have had an opportunity to meet us, and we them, I think it would be more useful to have smaller group discussions that are geared towards developing some collective plans. This is important for legislative and presidential support, as well as for developing a strategy on how to involve the lesbian, gay and bisexual community in advocating for the President in his upcoming re-election campaign. Clearly, now that Powell is out of the race (I could ever understand his appeal - I guess I'm not one of those "girls" that loves a man in uniform) it must be clear to our community that re-electing Clinton should be a primary goal. However, I know the gay community. They are all too willing to "cut off their nose to spite their face." They will stay home and not work for Clinton if they do not see some real efforts on his part to deal with our concerns. While ENDA was important, there still is the stinging rebuke they feel from the military problem.
