sleep is much easier than after a late night. Went ashore with G.P.,
Kelly, Don, Dave and Deric, all carrying movie paraphanalia for
mountain pictures. The light was stronger after lunch, and many
scenes shot at about 1,000 feet should turn out well. A movie out-
fit is an awful load to pack that far.
A continual wind blows across the ridge about a thousand
miles an hour, so we could barely stand on the top--end it was cold.
We had many thrilling slides down long snow fields- some places look
about 85°- good fun. Got back in time for supper. It is "tea" to
these British Newfoundlanders.
G.P. and Larry set out in the Meraco for three days up
the long lake. At high tide, about six o'clock, the MORRISSEY was
hauled stern first as far ashore as possible. I think not high
enough yet, though everything has been moved forward to help out. I
feel We shall be here some time but care little. It is superb coun-
try and G.P. says we will go to Baffin Land if it takes until Sep-
tember to do it.
JULY 12- Tuesday
Called out at Half past last midnight to go ashore and
haul on the shaft. At work just one minute and sat there freezing
half an hour. Noisy all night, but find next morning the new shaft
and propeller were all in order. A family of huskies appeared from
