We are almost certainly way south of Cape Dorchester and have not
.
yet been across the Arctic Circle. The map of this country has not
been at all accurate and we should have definitely found our loca-
tion before leaving the MORRISSEY. Personally, I have had a good
time and care little just where we are but should like to have been
over the Arctic Circle, which we probably cannot do from here in
the whale boat.
As I now write, I am lying on top of a high rock above
our camp, looking at one of the most magnificent of orange gold
sunsets I have ever seen. Coloring almost half the horizon, it is
one long strip under the now low black clouds and shows every shade
red to orange and tinged with lovely blue grays. The tide is low
and when it rises at 3 AM, we shove off to another- God knows where,
so I sleep until then.
AUGUST 12- Friday
It rained at the last high tide and threatened very bad
weather, so we stayed here. It is noon and I am just getting up,
which is fine with me. I forgot to mention that among the other at-
tractions of this land of delight are about 57 families of mosquitoes,
each family having no less than 273,000,000,000,000 immediate members,
not counting an infinite number of second cousins, servants and camp-
followers.
