AUGUST 21- Sunday
10:30 AM- Two months ago today I last shaved. That
does not imply that I now have a beard, but at any rate it is great
fun to comb what is there- it is a very soothing sensation and I
indulge at least twice a day with Larry's mirror and comb, as my

Yesterday, we arrived back at the shore at Camp Walcott
just about an hour before it started to rain. We all thanked God,
as we had packed no tent with us and had been spared through two
threatening days. We made fourteen miles the last day and everyone
was almost dead. We had been expecting to come back lightened by
the weight of our food, but all of us loaded down with fossils,
made it even worse.
G.P. deserves a great deal of credit for the way he made
that trip, with his heel just scalded before we left. The boiling
water left it in a very bad condition, but he made the whole way
with very little complaint. He is not especially strong physically
but has great courage and will, Larry is a great walker and packer;
his pack was loaded down with fossils and he outwalked us all anyway.
He is fine, and an ideal man for an outdoor trip like this.
Today, thanks to Larry's work, we are sitting around camp
resting instead of tearing on our way again, as the Director would
like to be doing. My feet are very sore and I wore the heels almost
