over my sleeping bag will keep me a little bit warm. I have only the
bed itself, no blankets on this trip, but have been fairly warm most
of the time and still strip to my underwear too.
AUGUST 28- Sunday
(Noon) My sleep last night was the best in a long time-
warm and comfortable. It was a real change from the last few nights
and great to be out in the open too. It is still very cold and
windy, with the ice in along the shore. We all pray it will stay
there and hold us in until the MORRISSEY returns.
AUGUST 30- Tuesday
(8 PM) This is slowly but surely becoming one of the
coldest places I have ever been. All day today there has been new
ice on all the little fresh puddles and the ears and nose freeze
very easily. Rain for one night drove me back into the tent with
Larry and George, and even there I was colder last night than I
have yet been. We are of course all under-clothed and under-
blanketed for weather of this sort.
SEPTEMBER 1- Thursday
(7 PM) What rotten weather to start the month with! It
has rained all day, and the wind shifted last night to the SE, so
it blows in- or at- our tent door as Larry and I rotated it the
