had been done on the uptrip in order The boring & fitting of these timbers to save time of as there was no room on board ship to assemble the structure every thing had to he done by careful & was much gratified to find a senis of foles made up of holes bored through nearly eight feet in length each seven pieces of timber with an ance over the actual sige of the both augur having hut an 1/8 wich clear coming together with such exacti- tude that there was no difficulty in inserting the meas holts. of this precision was accomplished by an augus guide impro- which when nailed down to the timber visid from a alrougly constructed cartridge box through which the timches was to be loved insured its being loved true,
