HARTNESS SCREW THREAD COMPARATO R
an unavoidable omission of expressions of appreciation
of the high service that has been rendered, especially
during the war, by some of our ablest engineers who
have given their best energies toward developing the
then available means of screw thread inspection.
We know that as engineers we must frequently
accomplish our task with the means at hand, and that
changing of methods must be left to more. opportune
circumstances.
In presenting the subject for the commercial pur-
pose it will be necessary to go into some of the ele-
mentary phases, and in such parts of the presentation
I beg the indulgence of those who have made this
subject a special study.
In setting forth this method as a new method for
screw thread inspection, I wish clearly to indicate that
the projection lantern has long been used for the in-
spection of screw threads of various kinds and the
inspection of thread gages, but that such use has
generally been limited to the finer work such as gage
inspection and precision screw inspection.
The present machine combines new elements that
make it possible instantly to see the resultant effect
of all elements that affect the dependableness of a
screw thread fit.
While the comparator machine is presented for
the inspection of screw threads in factory and inspec-
tion room, it will be readily seen that it is also a means
for the most rapid inspection of a great variety of
work.
Respectfully submitted
