To Ay Fellow Engineers
GENTLEMEN :
The science of engineering has attracted the best
energies of many men, and it is probable that the
problem of screw thread dependability has received a
large share of these energies.
In glancing over the past we find that we have
readily grasped a new idea, but in some instances we
have been SO busy refining the methods of applying
the idea that we have failed to look up to see if there
has not been an economic or other change that has
warranted a reconsideration of the original idea.
This seems to have been the case of our problem
of screw thread gaging.
It is with no criticism of others that the writer
sets forth the present problem and its solution.
If any one is to be blamed for our tardiness of
presentation of the solution, the
writer claims a large share
of the blame.
