Mar Department,
ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE,
Washington, may 31, 1873.

V/u 75 Gasquet St.
hus Oseans da
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of may 21. 1873
respecting cottain claim for bounty, Jc, and to state that, in view of the great number of similar
inquiries received daily, it is impossible to reply specifically in each case without delaying payment
of the settled claims now in this Office, lists of which are being prepared and sent, with funds, to
the various local disbursing officers as rapidly as possible. Should the claim of which you write
be among this number, funds in payment will be sent to the proper disbursing officer; who will duly
advise the claimant when and where to appear to receive the amount due.
Should an examination of the records show no money to have been received in the case, you
will be so informed without unnecessary delay, after which all inquiries for further information in
regard to the claim should be addressed direct to the office of the Treasury Department in which
the same was filed. This Office is charged with payment only, and cannot act to hasten
settlement in any case.
THOMAS M. VINCENT,
Assistant Adjutant General.
