I'm The undersigned appointed by your En
collency and General Atkinson of
the united states army; and instructed to repair
to the frontier of the state, to engaine into the
allegan depredating of the Pottamotamie Indian
upon and property of the citizen of that
Section and to take certain measures in the event
that sufficient cause should appear for the alarm
of the inhabitants beg leave to report the following
statement of their proceedings under then appoint
ment:
Immant to the instructions of your Excellency
and of bea atkinson the undersigned repaired to
the settlement on and in the vicinity of Bureau
Creek in Pubnam Country the theatre as was re=
ported, of the Indian outrages They immediately in=
stiluted engineer among the inhabitants, the results
of which, verified by Calificated letters, and office.

the ceded land in the possession of the whites; airt
the alleged purpose of hunting for the Winter support
