Source Description
Broadside facsimile of the United States Declaration of Independence with 51 clipped manuscript signatures of the Declaration's original signers affixed by Mellen Chamberlain beneath the text. Two notes on the verso, signed by Chamberlain and dated "July 2nd 1860" and "January 3rd 1870," describe how Chamberlain gathered and removed the signatures from other documents between 1837 and 1870. The second note also states that the signature of Thomas Lynch, Jr. is a facsimile.
