notes
Title supplied by cataloger.
Additional information on volume: These photographs were taken Saturday, the 15th of February, 1941, the last day surface cars were run through Copley Square. Thereafter they were run through the new subway along Huntington Avenue coming to the surface beyond Massachusetts Avenue. The day was dull and dreary with intermittent light snowfalls and light drizzling rain necessitating the use of a slow speed shutter and wide aperture. This explains the fact that objects moving with much speed were not stopped. The pictures show Copley Square as it was on this date. The scheme comprehends a circuit of the Square beginning with Page 1 facing the Public Library and bearing to the right, finally bringing the observer back to the platform in front of the Library. They were taken for purpose of record and presented to the Public Library for future reference. James W. Kenney, Donor. Boston, February 21, 1941.
