Source Description

Correspondence and mounted clippings of newspaper articles bound together. Correspondents include Samuel Sewall, William Reed Deane, James Savage, Samuel Putnam, Charles F. Adams, Jonathan Peel Dabney, Samuel G. Drake, Charles Jackson, Ellis Ames, George A. Ward, William Baylies, Lorenzo Sabine, Joseph E. Sprague, Ward Chipman and Francis Baylies. John Adams published a series of articles, signed "Novanglus", in the Boston Gazette in 1775, in answer to articles in the Tory interest which appeared in other newspapers, signed "Massachusettensis". Although originally attributed to Jonathan Sewall, then King's Attorney General of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, it is now well established that the Massachusettensis papers were the work of Daniel Leonard.; Blank pages have not been scanned.
