Letter from J.H. Stephenson, Groveton, [New Hampshire], to Willaim Lloyd Garrison, 1860 July 14
J.H. Stephenson writes to William Lloyd Garrison notifying him that he "can be accommodated here at $18 per week for your proposed party of six." He writes that Garrison's family and his own "could be made quite comfortable" in Groveton, New Hampshire, and suggests Garrison travel from Boston to Portland, Maine to pick up Stephenson's wife and daughters and together travel to meet him. He also warns that "you need be prepared to see a rough country, but there are glorious mountains ... and I think we might have a right good time." In the postscript (written on the second page), Stephenson provides instructions for taking the railroad and asks Garrison "to bring a basket of sandwiches which will be better and cheaper."
