Source Description
George Thompson writes to Henry Clarke Wright in regards to those who use the Bible to justify enslaving others. He writes of those who go to the "Old & New Testaments for their warrant to invade, sacriligously, God's family, and run away with a part of his offspring. O, What a God must the God of those be, who represent him, vertically, as saying- 'You must not Enslave my white children, for I made them 'free and equal,' but I have some poor black curly headed ones, and, as I don't much care about them, you may help yourselves, and do as you please with them." He continues to discuss religious scripture and its implications of slavery. He writes to James N. Buffum and says that arrangements for the Assembly week should be soon made.
