Source Description

In this letter to Samuel May, Robert Folger Wallcut discusses his visit to Nantucket, saying his "health is a good deal improved by my jaunt" and thanks May and the Board for the time off. He says that he met abolitonists in Nantucket "who assured me that they wished very much that a convention could be held there this fall." Wallcut suggests May avoid contacting Nathaniel Barney or Isaac Austin "or indeed any one else" to plan meetings, and send Stephen Symonds Foster, Abby Kelley Foster, and Henry Clarke Wright there "without any previous arrangement," promising their meetings "would be fully attended, & a good work would be accomplished." This could then become a convention and May, along with William Lloyd Garrison and Wendell Phillips, could join them. Wallcut assures May that "there will be time enough to arrange this or some better plan before the cold weather sets in."
